In today’s era, it is important that businesses that have a presence on the internet have clearly defined privacy and security policies so that their customers know that their private information is protected. We assist clients in ensuring that they are in full compliance with many laws, including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. This law provides that companies may not "collect, capture, purchase, receive through trade, or otherwise obtain" individuals' biometric data without providing notice and receiving consent". This statute has already resulted in multi-million dollar awards against violators of the act. Actions for violation of this Illinois Statute against Google, Facebook, Snapchat, Tik Tok have resulted in millions of dollars of settlements.
